CINCINNATI – Xavier men's soccer continues its spring campaign on Friday night with a highly-anticipated matchup against FC Cincinnati at XU Soccer Complex.
First touch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. and the match is open to the general public free of charge.
Both teams will conduct postgame autograph sessions following the match.
Â
• FC Cincinnati was announced as the 26th franchise in the United Soccer League on Aug. 12, 2015 and will be competing in its first season in 2016. The club is coached by former U.S. National Team star John Harkes and will play its home matches at the University of Cincinnati's Nippert Stadium.
Â
• Since forming, FC Cincinnati has signed former Musketeers Dallas Jaye and Luke Spencer to professional contracts. Spencer has scored three goals for the team since joining the roster in February.
• Jamie Starr, Xavier's goalkeepers coach for seven seasons, is also on the staff for FC Cincinnati in the same role. He joined the team shortly after its formation. Starr trained many standout XU keepers, including current FC Cincinnati member and 2015 BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year Dallas Jaye.Â
Â
"I'm excited to play FC Cincinnati in one of its first games as the team begins to prepare for an inaugural season as our city's professional soccer side," said Xavier head coach Andy Fleming. "They have done a remarkable job of putting a team together and we are excited to showcase each of our teams to the community on a Friday night."
