23 Musketeers See Action on Sunday Afternoon

CINCINNATI, OH - The good news for Xavier is that they allowed 23 players to see the field on Sunday afternoon, the bad news is that despite 12 hits, they dropped the series rubber match to Western Carolina by a score of 14-4. Luke Franzoni hit his 12th home run of the season, moving within one of the NCAA lead and he sits just four shy of the Xavier single-season record.

It was an inauspicious start for Xavier as the Catamounts put up four runs in the first to set the tone. Franzoni got one back with his homer just over the left field wall, but Western Carolina poured it on. They put up fiv ein the third, three in the fourth, and another in the sixth to take a massive lead.

After the pitching settled in, freshman Aedan Anderson tallied his first career homer in the eighth, and Senior Eddie Rivero hit his first, a two-run shot, in the ninth. When the dust cleared, Xavier's three home runs were not enough to overcome the large deficit.

Xavier retakes the diamond on Tuesday at 7:00 pm ET, as they battle Miami for the Joe Nuxhall Classic Championship in Oxford.

XU AT THE PLATE

11 Musketeers had a hit today, but the only multi-hit performance was Luke Franzoni. He went 2-3 including a solo home run.
Eddie Rivero hit his first career homer in the ninth, a two run shot over the right field wall in a 1-2 day.
Aedan Anderson also hit a home run, a solo bomb in the eighth, in his only plate appearance.
Matt DePrey hit a double in his at-bat, later scoring on Rivero's home run.
Andrew Walker and Jared Cushing both had extra base hits, hitting a triple and a double respectively.
Other Musketeers to get on base via a single include: Jack Housinger, Lane Flamm, Garrett Schultz, Ethan Hodge, and Alex Helmin.

XU ON THE MOUND

George Eisenhardt had a tough first inning, but delivered when he was trusted in the second. However, his line finished when he couldn't get out of the third, going 2.0 innings and striking out three.
Luke Hoskins came in to the Lion's den in the third and couldn't get an out, but then Justin Loer went 1.2 innings and struck out three.
Donny Chatham got the final out of the fourth, a strikeout.
Miles Halligan pitched a relatively clean fifth and sixth frame, just giving up one run in the middle innings.
Bryce Barnett set down the Catamounts on 10 pitches in the seventh, allowing one hit and no runs.
Bobby Jones finished the game for Xavier, allowing one run on two hits over 2.0 innings, striking out three.
