
Two More Musketeers Drafted as MLB Draft Wraps Up on Wednesday

Schilling, Jacknewitz selected in mid-rounds as two other XU commits drafted as well
SECAUCUS, N.J. -Â Xavier baseball saw another two players drafted on Wednesday in the MLB First Year Player Draft as Garrett Schilling and Greg Jacknewitz saw their names called, giving the program a record four total selections over the three-day event.
Schilling, a right-handed pitcher from Clawson, Mich., set XU's single season saves record in 2016 before successfully transitioning to the weekend rotation this past season. He capped his year with a win over Radford in the NCAA Tournament, tossing seven innings of one-run ball in an elimination game.
For the year, Schilling recorded a 3.57 ERA with a 6-4 record in 15 starts, going 85.2 innings and striking out 52 batters.
Jacknewitz, a left-handed pitcher from Delaware, Ohio, was a weekend starter for XU in 2017. He finished the year with a 4-4 record and a 5.03 ERA in 14 starts, tossing 68 innings and striking out 49.

• With the two selections today, Xavier has now had four players selected in this year's MLB First-Year Player Draft.
• XU has also had multiple picks in each of the last two seasons. In 2016, Dan Rizzie went to the New York Mets in the 13th round and Andre Jernigan followed as a 14th round selection of the Minnesota Twins.
