Musketeers Wrap Up Action at the Penn Relays
04.28.17 | Track and Field
PHILADELPHIA - Xavier outdoor track and field wrapped up action at the 123rd running of the Penn Relays on Friday evening at Franklin Field. The Musketeers capped off the meet with a new school record in the men's distance medley relay, finishing in a time of 10:03.32.
"The men's DMR highlighted our Penn Relays experience. Jordan Shepherd ran 3:05 on the first leg (1200m) handing off in 9th place. Russell Platt ran a great second leg for us, clocking 50.1 for 400 meters and handing off in 8th place. Nolan Daniels was our third leg, running the 800. When Nolan got the stick we were in 8th but about 20-30 meters behind the next team. Nolan ran aggressive from the start, going out in 52.2 through 400 meters. He made up the ground on most of the team in front of us, handing off in 6th place, splitting a 1:51.2. Our anchor leg of 1600 meters was run by Grant Parrelli. Instead of settling where he was, Grant took off after the pack that was about 40 meters ahead, coming through the first 400 in 57. Although the pace during his first lap ended up hurting him in the end, I liked how he really went for it. His split of 4:16 got us to an overall time of 10:03 and a new school record."
Xavier returns to action at the RedHawk Invitational on Saturday, April 29.
