Raeshaun Gaffney finished with a team-high 22 points on Sunday afternoon

CHICAGO - Senior guard Raeshaun Gaffney scored her 1,000th career point on Sunday afternoon as the Xavier women's basketball team dropped an 85-69 road contest at No. 20/21 DePaul.

The Musketeers move to 10-8 (2-5) on the year, while the Blue Demons improved to 16-4 (8-0).

NOTABLES

• Raeshaun Gaffney led Xavier with 22 points on 7-for-18 shooting. She now has eight career games with 20 or more points.

• Raeshaun Gaffney hit a free throw at the 6:49 mark in the second quarter - her 10th point of the game - to score her 1,000th career point.

• Maddison Blackwell added 14 points on 4-for-5 shooting. The senior forward was also 6-for-6 from the foul line and grabbed four rebounds. She has scored in double figures eight times this season.

• Na'Teshia Owens chipped in a season-high eight points, while Marquia Turner finished with seven points. Both guards added four rebounds. Owens also dished out a team-high four assists.

• Xavier did not have a block, its first game without a block this season. The Blue Demons held a 30-3 advantage in second-chance points. DePaul also held a 48-31 advantage on the glass.

• Xavier went 5-for-9 from behind the arc. Raeshaun Gaffney was a perfect 3-for-3 from three-point range.

FIRST QUARTER

• Xavier hit four of its first five shots to take an early 8-6 lead over the Blue Demons. DePaul led by as many as seven, 21-14, at the 1:56 mark before the Musketeers ended the quarter on a 6-0 run to make the score, 21-20.

• Raeshaun Gaffney scored seven points on 3-for-5 shooting, while Maddison Blackwell scored six points on 2-for-2 shooting. Xavier hit 61.5 percent (8-for-13) of its shot attempts in the frame.

SECOND QUARTER

• Xavier's hot shooting cooled off as they went 3-for-15 from the floor. DePaul outscored the Musketeers, 27-10, in the frame to take a 48-30 lead into the locker room.

• Raeshaun Gaffney led Xavier with 13 points on 4-for-9 shooting at the break. Maddison Blackwell added eight points, while Marquia Turner and Gaffney both had three rebounds to pace the team on the glass.

THIRD QUARTER

• Xavier got within 12, 56-44, at the 4:17 mark on a Marquia Turner jumper, but the Blue Demons responded with six unanswered points to maintain their double-figure advantage. Xavier outscored DePaul, 17-16, in the quarter.

• Marquia Turner scored seven points in the quarter after not scoring in the first half.

FOURTH QUARTER

• Xavier outscored DePaul, 22-21, in the final quarter. The Blue Demons finished the game hitting 43.6 percent of its shot attempts and had two players record double-doubles.

• Xavier returns to action on Friday, Jan. 20 against Georgetown at Cintas Center. Tip-off is slated for 8 p.m. with the game being aired on FS1.
