01.13.17 | Track and Field
Two-day meet opens on Friday night at the Nutter Field House
CINCINNATI - Xavier indoor track and field opens the 2017 portion of its schedule on Jan. 13-14 at the Kentucky Invitational. The two-day meet is being held at Nutter Field House on the campus of the University of Kentucky.
The team most recently competed in the Mastodon Opener on Dec. 3, winning five events and setting two school records.
START TIME: Friday, Jan. 13 - 4 p.m.
START TIME: Saturday, Jan. 14 - 9 p.m.
LOCATION: Nutter Field House (1401 Sports Center Drive - Lexington, Kentucky 40506-0285)
PARTICIPATING TEAMS
• Arkansas State, Akron, Asbury, Ball State, Bellarmine, Berea, Cincinnati, Cumberland, Dayton, Eastern Kentucky, Indiana Tech, IUPUI, James Madison, Kentucky, Kentucky State, Louisville, Marshall, Ohio State, Tennessee State, Xavier, Spalding, Washington & Jefferson
"Overall, I'm excited to have the team back from winter break and can't wait to get back to racing this weekend. I'm confident that the group we have competing put in the work over break to set the team up for success. Although this will be the first track meet of the season for most, I expect that the team will show up on Saturday as if it's a mid-season competition."
Russell Platt in the high jump - "He's coming off his school record jump at our first meet in December."
Zachary Polk in the long jump - "The runways are traditionally fast at UK, so if he can get his steps down, we should see a nice improvement from December."
Grayson Jenkins and Jordan Shepherd in the mile - "Both are looking to run sub 4:20 in their first mile of the indoor season."
Mason Moore and Matt Mekaelian in the 3,000-meter run - "They've both looked really strong in practice over break so I'm excited to see what they can do on Saturday."
Kara Robinson in the 60-meter hurdles - "Kara will be up against some of the top hurdlers in the country on Saturday. I'm looking forward to seeing how she responds to that level of competition now as a sophomore."
Women's mile - "We have a few girls entered that don't normally race the mile, but need to work on their lower end velocity (Genco, Sinning). We also have Brooke Hines, our transfer from Australia that will be racing in a Xavier uniform for the first time."
Sydney Larkin in the 400-meter dash - "Anytime Sydney steps on the track I know we're going to get a great performance. That attitude combined with great competition on an oversized track should lead to great things."
Madeline Britton in the 3,000-meter run - "Maddie should make the fast heat of the 3,000-meter run and will be racing to win as well as lower her personal best."
Xavier returns to action at the Gladstein Invitational on Jan. 20-21 in Bloomington, Ind.
The team most recently competed in the Mastodon Opener on Dec. 3, winning five events and setting two school records.
