Two-time All-American at UNC; Led Green Bay to best season in two decades in 2014
CINCINNATI - Xavier University Director of Athletics Greg Christopher announced today that Kacey White is Xavier's new women's soccer head coach. White, a former United States National Team member, NCAA All-American and National Champion, has collegiate coaching experience as a head coach at Wisconsin-Green Bay. She has also served as an assistant at Oklahoma, Southern Methodist and Texas Tech.
"Kacey stood out through our process and we are excited to have her take over our women's soccer program," said Christopher. "Kacey's background is distinctive – playing and winning at elite levels, along with successful collegiate and high-level club coaching experiences. Kacey's enthusiasm and credibility were part of her vision for winning at Xavier, and we look forward to having her work with our team."
"I am extremely excited and honored to be taking this position and becoming a part of the Xavier community," said White. "I would like to thank Greg Christopher, Brian Hicks and the rest of the search committee for giving me this amazing opportunity to lead the Xavier women's soccer program. During this process, I was truly able to feel at home and was absolutely impressed by the administration's commitment to the success of this program. I greatly look forward to arriving on campus, meeting each of the student-athletes, and beginning this incredible journey."
White, who is currently the U15-U19 Girls Director of Coaching for the Capital Area Soccer League, has been an Assistant Coach for U14, U15 and U16 Girls U.S. National Teams since May 2015. She coached in the Olympic Development Program from 2012-15, including a year as the Region III head coach.
White also has plenty of experience coaching at the collegiate level, including as the head women's coach at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay in 2014, leading the team to its best record since 1993, 11-7-2, while also boasting a team GPA of 3.36. The 11-win season marked a notable turnaround from the four-win season in 2013 and the most single-season wins for the program in over two decades. Green Bay advanced to the 2014 Horizon League Tournament semifinals after winning its first post-season match since 2004. Under White's leadership in 2014, the Phoenix offense flourished, scoring 36 goals after only tallying 12 in the previous season. The 36-goal mark was the most for the Green Bay program since 1993.
For the two years prior to UWGB, 2012-14, White served as an assistant coach at the University of Oklahoma. She also worked as an assistant coach at both Texas Tech University, 2007, and Southern Methodist University, 2008-09.
White has a long and impressive resume as a player, including as a two-time All-American, 2004 and 2005, and a member of the 2003 NCAA National Championship team at the University of North Carolina. White, who earned All-ACC honors three out of her four seasons on the UNC squad, graduated in 2006 with a bachelor's degree in exercise sports science with a minor in coaching.
Following her graduation White earned a spot on the U.S Women's National Team from 2006-10. During her USWNT career, she earned 17 caps and served as an alternate for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. White also played professionally for six years in both the United States and Sweden.
