Xavier men's soccer alum scored go-ahead goal as Toronto advances to first MLS Championship
TORONTO – Xavier men's soccer alum Nick Hagglund scored the go-ahead goal in the 68th minute, helping send Toronto FC to its first-ever MLS Cup Final on Wednesday night at BMO Field.
The third-year defender continued to play a big role in the playoffs as his side defeated the Montreal Impact 5-2 and 7-5 on aggregate on a rainy night in Toronto.
Toronto FC will move on to host the championship, meeting the Seattle Sounders on Dec. 10 at BMO Field.
While at Xavier, Hagglund was a two-time conference defensive player of the year (in both the A-10 and BIG EAST) and quarterbacked a defense that led Xavier to three straight NCAA Tournaments (2010-12). He was a part of 31 shutouts over his four years in the program. The 10th overall pick in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft, the Cincinnati-native is the highest drafted player in XU men's soccer history.
