Xavier held its third straight opponent under 50 points

CINCINNATI - Xavier women's basketball held its third straight opponent under 50 points on Sunday afternoon as the Musketeers moved to 4-0 on the year with a 62-41 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

The Lady Lions dropped to the 0-4 on the year. Xavier also limited UAPB to a .271 field-goal percentage, a season-best for the Musketeers' defense.

NOTABLES

• Raeshaun Gaffney led all scorers with 18 points on 7-for-11 shooting, her 37th career game in double figures. The senior guard added five rebounds, three assists and two steals in 28 minutes of play.

• Maddison Blackwell was the only other Xavier player in double figures with 17 points on 7-for-9 shooting. The senior forward scored 13 points in the second half. She added six rebounds in the win.

• Xavier held a 54-34 advantage on the glass with Leah Schaefer pulling down 12 rebounds to match her career high. She has posted double-figure rebounds in six career games. Marquia Turner also matched her career high with seven rebounds.

• The Musketeers had a season-high 10 steals with eight different players recording at least one. Xavier also had 16 assists with Raeshaun Gaffney, Marquia Turner and Leah Schaefer pacing Xavier with three each.

• Xavier moved to 3-0 in the all-time series against UAPB.

• Over the last two seasons, Xavier has held an opponent under 50 points nine times.

FIRST QUARTER

• Xavier hit 53.3 percent of its shot attempts (8-for-15) to build a 16-9 lead at the end of the stanza. Raeshaun Gaffney led all scorers with six points on 3-for-4 shooting.

SECOND QUARTER

• The Musketeers scored six straight to open the second quarter, building a 13-point advantage (22-9) with 8:14 on the clock. Xavier extend its lead to 27 (44-17) with just under a minute left on the clock before taking a 46-20 lead into the locker room.

• The 46 first-half points were the most in a half by the Musketeers this season. Raeshaun Gaffney led all scorers with 17 points at the break on 7-for-8 shooting with two, three pointers.

• Xavier held a 23-13 advantage on the glass with Leah Schaefer and Imani Partlow pulling down a game-high four rebounds each.

THIRD QUARTER

• Both teams shot under 30 percent from the floor in the third stanza. UAPB outscored Xavier, 10-6, in the quarter to make the score 50-30 heading into the final period.

FOURTH QUARTER

• Xavier outscored UAPB, 12-11, in the final quarter. Both squads shot under 34 percent from the floor.

• Maddison Blackwell scored seven points on 3-for-4 shooting. Xavier was also 4-for-7 from the foul line in the final quarter.

• Xavier returns to action on Thursday, Dec. 1 against Delaware State. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. from Cintas Center.
