Men's Soccer Clinches Home Match in Upcoming BIG EAST Tournament
11.02.15 | Men's Soccer
Musketeers will be either third or fourth seed depending on Thursday's match outcome
CINCINNATI – As a result of this weekend's results, Xavier men's soccer has clinched a home match at Xavier Soccer Complex for the quarterfinal round of the upcoming BIG EAST Tournament. The match will be played on Sunday, Nov. 8 at 4:00 p.m. ET against a TBD opponent.
All three rounds of the tournament will be played at the highest seed's home field this season, a new format that was voted in unanimously by the league's coaches after last season.
The top-two seeds, Georgetown and Creighton, have received a bye into the semifinal round. Xavier and Butler, which face off on Thursday in Indianapolis at 7 p.m., have locked up home matches as either the three or four seeds.
With a win or a tie on Thursday, the Musketeers will clinch third-place in the regular season standings and face whichever team finishes sixth. With a loss, Xavier finishes fourth and will battle the five-seed.
There are a number of scenarios that could play out to determine the fifth or sixth seed at this point. DePaul, Villanova, Providence and St. John's are all still jockeying for the final two spots in the playoff.
