Volleyball's Sarah Brown Tabbed as AVCA Honorable Mention All-American
Dec. 14, 2011
Complete Listing of All-America Teams CINCINNATI - Xavier sophomore Sarah Brown was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) 2011 Division I Honorable Mention All-American Team as announced by the association on Dec. 14. This is the second consecutive national honor for the Musketeers as junior Stephanie Vorherr earned the distinction last season. "I'm very happy for Sarah," said head coach Mike Johnson. "She has worked very hard this season and this truly is a team honor as well. I have always believed that awards of this magnitude are great barometer for where this program is headed. Having All-Americans in back to back seasons is a great sign that things are moving in the right direction." In the two seasons Johnson has been at the helm of the Xavier volleyball program, the Musketeers have produced two AVCA All-Americans. XU has only had three players earn that distinction in its history. Next year's squad will field two AVCA All-Americans for the first time in school history. Brown, a 2011 Atlantic 10 First Team All-Conference selection and A-10 All-Tournament team member, led the team with a 3.37 kills/set average. She second on the team in digs/set, 3.17, which helped pace her to a team-best seven double-doubles during the season. The Musketeers finished 2011 with a 21-11 overall mark and as runners-up in the A-10 Championship. The 20-win season marked the 19th in program history. Xavier also went 9-0 at home for only the second time in program history.
