Xavier Falls To Cards In Three Straight

DAYTON, Ohio - The Xavier volleyball team fell to C-USA Regular Season Co-Champion Louisville, 3-0 (30-16, 30-18, 30-20) on Friday in the first match of the A-10/C-USA Challenge.

U of L (26-5) was led by 16 kills and 12 digs from Lena Ustymenko as the Cardinals out hit the Musketeers .306 to .078 in the match.

Xavier (16-15) had its most productive days offensively from sophomore Laci Hasenour with nine kills and senior Katey Wygant who finished with seven kills.

In just her second career start as a setter, freshman Carley Horvath dished out 27 assists on Xavier's 32 kills in the match.

Defensively, XU was led by freshman Jordan Brightwell, a Louisville native, who tallied 10 of the Musketeers' 39 digs.

U of L countered with 50 digs on the night as Sarah Drury matched Ustymenko with 12 digs each.

Xavier will conclude the 2002 season in Dayton on Saturday against rival Cincinnati in a rematch of last year's NCAA First Round clash. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
