CINCINNATI- In its final regular-season match, the Xavier volleyball team will travel to Muncie, Ind., for a Saturday-night match against Ball State. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Xavier (20-11) is coming off of an emotional loss to No. 12 Dayton in the finals of the A-10 Championships, while Ball State (14-16) enters after a first-round exit in the MAC Conference tournament.
Last Time Out - A-10 Championships
The Musketeers dropped a five-set heartbreaker to top-seed and 12th-ranked Dayton in the Atlantic 10 Volleyball Championships. This is the third-straight runner-up finish in the Atlantic 10 Championships and the sixth time in program history to have finished second in the A-10 tourney.
A-10 All-Tourney Team
Alex Blair, Sarah Brown and Aubree Smith were named to the Atlantic 10 All-Tournament Team after Xavier's third-straight runner-up finish. Blair notched nine kills and a career-high seven blocks in XU's A-10 Championship Semifinals win over VCU. She followed with 10 kills and six blocks against UD in the championship match. Brown combined for 20 kills and 30 digs in the two matches, which included a sensational 12 kills and 25 digs against the 12th-ranked Flyers. Smith earned an all-tourney nod after handing out 73 assists, while registering 18 digs and seven blocks.
A-10's Department of Defense
XU holds its opponents to a .151 attack percentage, tops in the A-10 and is the only team ranked in the top four of the A-10 in opponent hitting percent (1st), blocks (4th) and digs (4th).
Stephanie Vorherr has 2,119 career digs, which ranks second all-time in the A-10. Vorherr needs seven digs to catch current GW libero Candace Silva-Martin (2,126), whose season has already ended.
Scouting the Opposition - Ball State
Ball State was swept by Ohio in the quarterfinals of the MAC Championship. The Cardinals enter the match having lost four of their last five 10 of their last 15 matches. Kara Bates (3.65 k/s), Jacqui Seidel (11.01 a/s), Catie Fredrich (5.01 d/s) and Lisa Scott (.92 b/s) are BSU's statistical leaders. In addition to Bates', five other Cardinals average over 2.0 k/s: Marquita Marshall (2.60), Lisa Scott (2.54), Kylee Baker (2.16), Lauren Grant (2.15) and Jenna Spadafora (2.05). However, Marshall has only played in five sets and Baker has seen action in 45 sets.
Series Stuff - Ball State
Ball State leads the all-time series, 1-5, although XU won the last meeting with BSU, 3-0, on Aug. 25, 2005.
