CINCINNATI - Only a pair of matches remain in the regular season for the Xavier volleyball team, a trip to Milwaukee on Friday to face Marquette and then a stop in Chicago for a meeting against DePaul on Saturday.
Xavier (20-9, 11-3 BIG EAST) sits alone in second place in the league standings, trailing only Marquette (21-5, 13-1 BIG EAST). The two teams square off at the Al McGuire center at 8 p.m. (ET) Friday.
It is still possible for Xavier to secure a share of the regular-season crown with Marquette. The Musketeers have to win both of their matches this weekend and then get some help from Butler. The Bulldogs will also have to defeat the Golden Eagles when the two teams face off on Saturday.
Butler and Creighton are tied for third in the league at 10-4 during conference play. Regardless of this weekend's outcomes, Marquette has secured the top seed in the tournament by virtue of the seeding tie-break procedure. However, Xavier, Butler and Creighton can wind up in any of the other three positions.
Xavier will wrap up its regular-season at DePaul (16-12, 2-12 BIG EAST) at 8 p.m. (ET) on Saturday. XU won the first meeting in straight sets.
