Xavier Moves Closer to Top 25
CINCINNATI --- The Xavier University volleyball team received a school record 16 votes in the latest USA Today/AVCA Division I Top 25 Coaches Poll released Monday.
The Musketeers (25-3) are one of eleven schools receiving votes behind number 25 Notre Dame (21-5) who has 146 votes.
XU is coming off a weekend in which it won its first ever Atlantic 10 Championship and an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament.
The Xavier roster also holds some of the best talent in the country as Senior Sara Bachus (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton H.S.) and freshman Molly Martin (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins H.S.) are each nationally ranked in a number of individual statistical categories. Bachus was also recently named Atlantic 10 Player of the Year as well as Atlantic 10 Tournament Most Outstanding Player. Martin was named A-10 Rookie of the Year and Setter of the Year.
The lone undefeated team in Division I, Long Beach State (23-0) held the top mark again this week as the top seven slots remained unchanged from last week's release.
Michigan State (18-7) was the biggest winner of the week as they, along with Xavier had nine votes in last week's poll before jumping to 22nd place with 203 votes after wins over Ohio State and Penn State this past week.
