Xavier earned the second seed after posting an 11-3 conference record and 19-10 overall record this season. Two of the Musketeers' three conference losses came to No. 1 seed and 12th-ranked Dayton and the third loss came early in the conference season at Temple. XU ran off a streak of eight-straight wins during the conference season, which included victories against A-10 Championship-participants Duquesne, Butler and VCU.
The Musketeers await the winner of Friday's quarterfinal match between A-10 newcomers VCU and Butler. VCU finished third, earning the No. 3 seed, after going 10-4 in the conference. The Rams posted a 24-5 overall record. Butler put together a 7-7 A-10 campaign, winning its last five conference matches, to tie with George Washington for the sixth-best record. Since the Bulldogs won the regular-season meeting with the Colonials they advanced to the championship as the No. 6 seed.
On the other side of the bracket, Dayton will await the winner of host and No. 4 seed Duquesne and No. 5 seed Temple. The semifinal matchup will be contested at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The A-10 Championship match will be held on Sunday, Nov. 17 at 12 noon. The match will be televised on CBS Sports Network and the quarterfinal and semifinal matches will be streamed live on Atlantic10.com. Admission to the three-day event is free.
