Volleyball's Nine-Game Win Streak Snapped

WASHINGTON, D.C. --- The Xavier women's volleyball team (21-7,12-3) fell to George Washington (21-5, 12-2) for the second time this season in four games (15-11, 7-15, 8-15, 9-15) Friday night. On Saturday night, the Musketeers handled Morgan State in three games Weekly Sports Update, pg. 2 (15-7, 15-5, 15-6).

Junior Jill Hampton (Ft. Mitchell, KY/Notre Dame Academy) and sophomore Katey Wygant (Papillion, NE/Papillion LaVista) each recorded double-doubles in both matches. Hampton scored 17 kills and 15 digs against GW and 12 kills, 11 digs versus Morgan State. Wygant tallied 12 kills, 13 digs and 15 kills, 13 digs on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Sara Bachus (Cincinnati, OH/Seton) led all Musketeers with 34 kills on the weekend. Tami Ores (Pontiac, IL/Pontiac Township) dished out 104 assists this weekend, bringing her total to 1,196 for the season. She now holds the Xavier record for ninth most assists in a single-season.

After the loss to George Washington, Xavier has three losses in the Atlantic 10. The Musketeers are in third place in the conference behind GW and Temple.

The volleyball team will close its season with a home match Saturday, November 11 against Fordham.
