CINCINNATI- The Xavier University volleyball team will embark on its final conference road trip of the regular season with matches at Virginia Commonwealth and Charlotte this weekend.

Xavier Downs Charlotte, 3-0, to Remain Perfect in Conference Play
Senior Michelle Matia led the way with eight kills and six assisted blocks as Xavier defeated Charlotte, 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-16), at Halton Arena Friday evening. With the win Xavier moves to 13-5 on the season and a perfect 5-0 in A-10 action to tie Dayton for first place.
XU (17-9) and VCU (23-3) enter the weekend at 9-2 and tied for second-place in the Atlantic 10. Both the Musketeers and Rams will have matches remaining against Dayton and Charlotte following Friday's match. The winner will have the inside track for the No. 2 seed and first-round bye in the A-10 Championship.
Friday's match with VCU is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Richmond, Va. Live stats and a live video stream will be provided.
Xavier and Charlotte (10-13, 2-9 A-10) will meet at 1 p.m. on Sunday. The match will serve as senior day for the Niners and feature live stats and a live video stream.
Last Time Out
Xavier won in straight sets over Duquesne and five sets over George Washington last weekend, improving to a perfect 6-0 in its last six matches and 10-2 in its last 12.
A-10's Department of Defense
XU holds opponents to a .149 attack percentage, second best in the A-10 by a mere four ten-thousandths of a point. In fact, Xavier is the only team ranked in the top four of the A-10 in opponent hitting percent (2nd), blocks (4th) and digs (4th).
2,000 With a Bang
Senior libero Stephanie Vorherr passed her 2,000th-career dig last weekend when she passed a whopping 27 digs (9.0 d/s) in only three sets against Duquesne. Her 2,044 digs ranks fourth all-time in the A-10. Vorherr trails only La Salle's Carolyn Judge (2,080), Dayton's Adrienne Green (2,070) and current GW libero Candace Silva-Martin (2,051).
A-10 Defensive Player of the Week
Vorherr was named the A-10 Defensive Player of the Week after registering 51 digs (6.38 d/s) against Duquesne and GW. She followed her 27-dig performance against the Dukes with 24 digs versus the Colonials. This is the second time this season and seventh time in her career that Vorherr has won the award.
Sarah Brown posted back-to-back double-doubles last weekend. She registered a season-high 18 kills and 10 digs against Duquesne and followed with 17 kills and 15 digs against George Washington.
A Hit Above the Rest
Alex Smith has a career-hitting percentage of .336, second all-time at X. She is hitting .376 on the season, fourth-best in program history. Smith is hitting .469 in A-10 matches this year, the highest total by a Musketeer in the last 12 years.
Scouting the Opposition - VCU
VCU is riding a nine-match win streak, going a perfect 9-0 in the month of October. The Rams only lost one set (Saint Louis) in the month (27-1). The A-10 newcomer is especially tough at home, posting a 9-0 record in the Verizon Wireless Arena. VCU is led by Kristin Boyd (2.80 k/s), Cecilia Aragao (9.97 a/s), Amanda love (3.69 d/s) and Martina Samadan (1.65 b/s). Samadan has won four A-10 Rookie of the Week honors and been named Defensive Player of the Week twice.
Series Stuff - VCU
XU is 2-0 all-time versus VCU, including last season's 3-0 decision in the Maryland Invitational. Sarah Brown notched 17 kills for X and Boyd posted 12 kills for VCU.
A-10 Championship Seeding
XU and VCU are tied for second place in the A-10 with a 9-2 record. The winner of the match will hold a one-game lead and the head-to-head tie-breaker for seeding in the A-10 Championship.
Scouting the Opposition - Charlotte
The Niners posted a 7-2 record to open the season, winning the East Carolina and Runnin' Bulldog Classics, but are just 2-10 in their last 12 matches with wins coming at home against Duquesne and at La Salle. Bianca Rouse (3.39 k/s), Lily Vera (10.72 a/s), Jenna Litoborski (4.43 d/s) and Amanda Videmsek (.68 b/s) lead the 49ers statistically. Rouse and Videmsek (3.34 k/s) are ranked seventh and eighth, respectively, in the A-10 in kills.
Series Stuff - Charlotte
Xavier is 13-2 all-time against Charlotte and has won all 11 meetings since the 49ers joined the A-10 in '05. The Niners last beat X in 2002 in Charlotte. The Musketeers won last season's meeting, 3-0, on the road. Michelle Matia registered eight kills and six blocks.
