Oct. 29, 2012
CINCINNATI - The Atlantic 10 Conference has announced Stephanie Vorherr as the A-10 Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 29. Vorherr has won the award twice this season and seven times in her illustrious career.
A native of Cincinnati and product of Mother of Mercy High School, Vorherr eclipsed 2,000-career digs by posting 27 digs against Duquesne on Friday night. The 27 digs are the most by any A-10 player in a three-set match this season. She averaged a sensational 9.0 digs per set in the match. Vorherr added another 24 digs against George Washington. On the weekend, she registered 51 total digs and averaged 6.38 d/s.
Xavier's career leader moved into fourth-place on the A-10's all-time digs chart and is seven digs away from third on the list. With 450 digs on the season, the sixth-highest total in program history, Vorherr stands just 12 digs shy of registering her fourth top-five season. She already holds three of Xavier's top four single-season marks for digs - 603 in 2010 (1st), 514 in 2009 (2nd) and 477 in 2011 (4th).
Vorherr also won the award on Sept. 4 following her record-setting 46-dig effort against Ole Miss. She accumulated 79 digs, averaging 7.18 digs per set, during the week leading up to the honor.
Xavier will travel to Richmond, Va., for a Friday night match with VCU. The two schools are currently tied for second-place in the A-10 and the winner will have the inside track for a No. 2 seed and first-round bye in the A-10 Championships.
