Musketeers Bit by Duquesne for Second Straight Season

PITTSBURGH - For the second straight season, Xavier dropped a road match to Atlantic 10 rival Duquesne in five games. This season the Dukes defeated the Musketeers by game scores of 30-28, 26-30, 34-32, 30-20, 15-9.

With the loss Xavier falls to 14-9 overall and 5-3 in the A-10 while Duquesne improves to 14-9 overall and 4-4 in the conference.

Sophomore Laci Hasenour led the way for the Musketeers with a .326 hitting percentage while tallying a career high 20 kills on 46 swings.

Freshman outside hitter Meggie Hoffman had a match-high 24 kills for Xavier to go along with 15 digs for her 13th double-double of the season.

Senior Katey Wygant added a double-double of her own with 13 kills and 11 digs.

Junior Kimberly Cockerel was the fourth of four Xavier players to reach double-figures in kills as she tallied 12 as part of 60 assists from sophomore setter Molly Martin.

Freshman libero Jordan Brightwell had 15 digs on defense for Xavier but it was not enough to stop the trio of Duquesne’s Diana Wuebker, Ashley Macko, and Sarah Morrow who had 14, 13 and 11 kills respectively.

The Musketeers return to action Saturday in the nation’s capital to take on George Washington at 7 p.m.
