CINCINNATI - The annual meeting between Xavier and Cincinnati on the volleyball court will take place at UC's Fifth Third Arena at 7 p.m. on Tuesday evening. The Musketeers bring a 12-8 record into the match, while the Bearcats stand winless at 0-20.
Xavier is coming off a thrilling, but tough five-set loss at Creighton. The Bluejays sit just outside the AVCA Top 25, but hold a top-five RPI. Abbey Bessler led the way for XU with 21 kills and 23 digs. Sarah Brown also had an impressive showing, putting down 12 kills and adding 22 digs.
The Bearcats, who have only won nine sets in 20 matches, are coming off of a straight-set loss to Louisville. UC has a very young team, with a roster that sports seven freshman. Outside hitter Ciara Hill leads the team offensively at 2.73 k/s. Freshman defensive specialist Shelby Green averages 3.12 d/s.
Last season's meeting between the two squads went to a full five sets, with XU pulling away in the fifth set for the victory. Amé White paced Xavier with 17 kills and 12 digs. Brown chipped 14 kills and 12 digs.
