Xavier Topped By No. 22 Creighton In Four Sets
Despite sparkling efforts from Aubree Smith and Abbey Bessler, Xavier dropped a four-set thriller to No. 22 Creighton on Saturday afternoon at Cintas Center. Xavier fell to 9-7 overall and 2-1 in the BIG EAST, while Creighton improved to 10-4 and 1-1 in the conference.

Xavier, with its 11-7 overall record and 4-1 mark in the BIG EAST, is in first place in the conference standings. The lone Musketeer loss came at Cintas Center less than two weeks ago to the Bluejays. Meanwhile, Creighton, which is receiving votes in the AVCA Poll, boasts a 12-4 record and sits a half game behind the Musketeers in the conference at 3-1.

When the two teams met earlier this season, Creighton brought a No. 22 national ranking with them and left with a four-set win over Xavier. XU's talented freshman outside hitter Abbey Bessler posted a match-high 20 kills, while the CU's Lauren Smith and Leah McNary tallied 15 and 14, respectively. Aubree Smith (46 assists, nine kills and nine digs) and Alex Smith (11 kills) also registered sensational numbers for the Musketeers.

The match will be broadcast live on Creighton's website, with a radio broadcast by 1290 KOIL in Omaha, Neb. Live stats will also be available on GoCreighton.com.
