Xavier Closes Five-Match Homestand Against Morehead State

CINCINNATI - Xavier aims to close its five-match homestand with a victory against visiting Morehead State on Tuesday evening. The match is slated for a 5 p.m. start time at Cintas Center.

The Musketeers sit in first place in the BIG EAST with an 11-7 overall record and 4-1 mark in conference play. Meanwhile, Morehead State holds a 15-5 record, which includes a spotless 6-0 record in the OVC.

Xavier is coming off an exciting five-set thriller against Butler this past Friday, while Morehead State is riding a six-match win streak. Both XU and MSU have played Butler and IUPUI this year, with each team defeating IUPUI. The Musketeers have a pair of wins over Butler, and the Eagles dropped a four-set decision to the Bulldogs in the Cincinnati Invitational.

Musketeers Run To Three-Set Victory At Morehead State
In the program's 1,200th match, the Xavier volleyball team defeated Morehead State in three sets (25-16, 25-18, 25-17). The Musketeers used runs in all three sets to put away the Eagles. Alex Smith and Sarah Brown paced the Musketeer attack with eight kills each. Libero Stephanie Vorherr notched 16 digs and setter Aubree Smith recorded 22 assists.

Junior setter Aubree Smith, freshman outside hitter Abbey Bessler and senior middle blocker Alex Smith lead XU this season. In the last three matches, Aubree Smith has narrowly missed out on triple-doubles, while Bessler has registered seven-straight double-doubles and leads the team with 12. Alex Smith tops the conference with a .408 hitting percentage.

The two teams met last season in Morehead, Ky., and Xavier ran away with a three-set victory (25-16, 25-18, 25-17).
