Last Time Out
Xavier grabbed the first set, 25-19, over 18th-ranked Dayton on Monday night, before losing in four sets (19-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-14) at UD. Amé White led XU with 12 kills and Sarah Brown added 11.
Milestone on the Horizon
Senior libero Stephanie Vorherr is approaching the 2,000-career digs milestone. She currently has 1,936 digs, which ranks fifth all-time in the A-10. In front of Vorherr is current GW libero Candace Silva-Martin with 1,955 digs. Only three players in A-10 history have eclipsed 2,000 digs: La Salle's Carolyn Judge (2,080), Dayton's Adrienne Green (2,070) and Charlotte's Carly Romberg (2,017).
It's a "White"-Out
In the last five matches, senior outside hitter Amé White has increased her production in Xavier's attack. She is averaging 2.80 k/s, while hitting .286 in the five matches. She has reached double-digits four times in kills and two times in digs during that stretch.
Scouting the Opposition - Rhode Island
Rhode Island has lost its last two matches and eight of its last ten. The Rams dropped a 1-3 decision to A-10-foe Fordham last Saturday. The Rams are led by Britta Baarstad (3.05 k/s), Annie Nelson (8.41 a/s), Ashley Tennant (2.79 d/s) and Jill Anderson (0.85 b/s). Baarstad leads the team in kills per set (3.05), but has only played in 44 sets. Catie Steffen has played in 66 of a possible 68 sets and averages 2.94 k/s. URI is 1-5 in road matches this year, including 1-1 in the A-10. Rhody's lone road win came at La Salle.
Series Stuff - Rhode Island
Xavier leads the all-time series 21-14 against Rhode Island, with the two teams splitting last season's meetings. The Musketeers dropped the first contest at Rhody, 3-1, but avenged the loss with a 3-0 win at home. In the first contest, Alex Smith put down 14 kills and Kelsey Dunaway registered four service aces. When the two teams met just eight days later, Sarah Brown's 15 kills led Xavier to the three-set win. XU has won four of the last five and 13 of the last 15 meetings between the two teams.
Scouting the Opposition - Fordham
Fordham enters the weekend on a three-match win streak and is in a three-way tie for second in the A-10. The Rams, 4-1 in conference play, trail A-10 front runner No. 18 Dayton, a team they play Friday night at UD. Team Leaders: Lisa Hipp (3.37 k/s), Sara Konkel (8.77 a/s), Maria Rodenberg (3.22 d/s) and Randi Ewing (1.01 b/s). Fordham began the season with six-straight losses, but has rebounded with a 12-6 record since. The Rams are 3-4 in true road matches, but are 2-1 in A-10 road matches.
Series Stuff - Fordham
Xavier holds a commanding 27-1 advantage in the series, including a 3-0 win at Fordham last season. Sarah Brown led the Musketeers with 10 kills in the match and Kaela Jo Freppon recorded a program-record-tying six aces in the match. The Musketeers are on a 12-match winning streak against the Rams, which dates back to the second meeting between the two teams in 2002. XU has won 11-straight sets in the series. The last time Xavier dropped a set to the Rams came on the road in 2009, when it lost the second and third sets before winning the match, 3-2, by taking the final two sets.
