Kelly Ruth Named A-10 Player of the Week

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Junior outside hitter Kelly Ruth has been named the Atlantic 10 Volleyball Player of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday, Oct. 6. Ruth helped lead the Musketeers to back-to-back A-10 victories over the weekend as XU started off its conference schedule with a perfect 2-0 mark. This is the first weekly honor for Ruth this season, the third of her career, and the second Player of the Week nod for a Musketeer this year.
Additionally, on Tuesday, Oct. 7, CVU.com released its list of Top Performers of the week and Ruth was included among 10 other players from across the nation. The Collegiate Volleyball Update (CVU) selects a national Player of the Week in addition and the choices for Top Performers consist of players who were finalists for the weekly honor and others who had exceptional individual matches.
The Elyria, Ohio native averaged a team-best 4.25 kills per set over the weekend as Xavier open A-10 play with wins at Charlotte (3-1) on Oct. 3 and at George Washington (3-1) on Oct. 5. She also averaged 3.12 digs per set as she posted back-to-back double-doubles. Versus the Niners, Ruth tallied 16 kills and 15 digs while assisting on three blocks and at GW, she recorded a match-high 18 kills to go with 10 digs for her sixth double-double of the season and assisted on four blocks.
The Musketeers return home this weekend as they are set to welcome La Salle on Friday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m. and Temple on Saturday, Oct. 11, at 5 p.m. Friday's match will be streamed live through www.GOXAVIER.com at no charge to the viewer courtesy of Xavier Athletics.
