Dayton (10-2) is coming off back-to-back losses, its first two losses of the season, at the Michigan/adidas Invitational this past weekend. UD fell to host No. 6 Michigan in straight sets on Friday and then dropped a 3-2 decision to Marquette on Saturday. The Flyers are led by junior Lindsay Fletemier, the reigning A-10 Co-Offensive Player of the Week, with 168 kills and 61 total blocks on the season. Paige Vargas is the Flyers’ digs leader, averaging 3.43 digs/set.
Xavier and Dayton have previously met at least 64 times in the all-time series between the two teams and the Flyers are the Musketeers’ most-played opponent all-time. Due to incomplete record keeping in the early- to mid-70s, there may have been a few more meetings, but Dayton holds the series advantage, having won 41 times against Xavier. XU dropped both meetings against UD in 2008.
Reaching for 400
Xavier head coach Floyd Deaton entered this season with 391 career wins as a head coach, all of which came at XU over the past 19+ seasons. The Musketeers went 2-1 last weekend at the OSU Sports Imports Classic to push his career total to 398-240. He needs only two more wins to reach the major career milestone of 400 victories.
