CINCINNATI - In its final regular-season tournament of the season, the Xavier University volleyball team will travel to Irvine, Calif., for three matches against UC Irvine, Fresno State and American in the UC Irvine Invitational.
Xavier is off to a 7-3 start to the season, with two of its losses coming against No. 7 Michigan and No. 13 Ohio State. Seniors Alex Smith and Sarah Brown, as well as juniors Aubree Smith and Alex Blair and freshman Abbey Bessler, pace a Xavier attack that ranks among the nation's best.
Bessler, an outside hitter, leads the Musketeers and ranks 121st in the nation at 3.49 k/s. Both Alex (31st) and Aubree Smith (118th) are nationally ranked in hitting percentage, with Alex connecting on .416 percent of her attempts and Aubree checking in at .352.
XU opens the tournament on Friday at 3:30 p.m. (ET) against Fresno State (4-5) and will meet UC Irvine (7-4) at 10:30 later that evening. The Musketeers will close the invitational with 2:00 p.m. meeting against unbeaten American (10-0) on Saturday.
