Musketeers Sweep Hatters, 3-0
CINCINNATI – Xavier pushed its record to 5-0 with a 3-0 sweep (30-22, 30-24, 30-24) of Stetson in the afternoon session of the Mike Castrucci Automotive Xavier Invitational.
The Musketeers out hit the Hatters (0-5) .248 to .148 including a .361 to .139 advantage in the opening game.
Senior middle blocker Kimberly Cockerel, who ranks second in school history with a .327 hitting percentage, hit .706 in the match with 12 kills on just 17 swings with no errors. Her .706 hitting percentage marks the third time this season that she has hit above .500 in a match.
Sophomore libero Jordan Brightwell and freshman Ashley Norris each had 10 digs to anchor a Musketeer defense which held Stetson to just 37 kills in 108 attempts.
Xavier, now 2-0 in the XU Invitational, will take on Central Michigan at 7:30 p.m. The Chippewas defeated Appalachian State in the first match of the day 3-1 (28-30, 30-24, 30-20, 30-25).
