Sept. 4, 2012
CINCINNATI - The Atlantic 10 office in Newport News, Va., has announced that Stephanie Vorherr was named the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week following her record-setting performance last week.
Vorherr broke Xavier's single-game digs record against Ole Miss, registering 46 digs in the match. The senior libero had previously set the Musketeers' record with 43 against Dayton (Oct. 15) in 2010. She now holds seven of XU's top-10 single-game marks for digs.
A native of Cincinnati, Vorherr accumulated 79 digs, averaging 7.18 digs per set, during the three matches in which she played this week. She is currently ranked second on Xavier's career-digs list with 1,715 digs. Vorherr is just 14 digs shy of breaking Xavier's career record for digs.
This marks the sixth time in Vorherr's career that she has earned the A-10 Defensive Player of the Week award. Vorherr won the award three times during her freshman year (2009) and two more times as a sophomore (2010). The Mother of Mercy High School product is the reigning three-time A-10 Libero of the Year and earned an AVCA All-America Honorable Mention nod in 2010.
Vorherr will take to the court with the rest of the Musketeers tonight, when Xavier travels to Oxford, Ohio for a 7 p.m. tilt against Miami (OH).
