Hernandez Joins Volleyball Staff
Aug. 2, 2013
CINCINNATI - Ilyanna Hernandez has been added to volleyball head coach Mike Johnson's staff as a graduate assistant coach for the upcoming 2013 season. Hernandez is a former player of Johnson's from his head coaching stint at Austin Peay.
"We feel very fortunate to add Ilyanna to our staff," said Johnson. "In coaching Ilyanna, I always found her to be dedicated, hardworking, and passionate. She loves this game. But more importantly, she loves people. That she understands our system and my expectations will give her an awesome head start as she begins her coaching career. She is a fun, vibrant, ball of energy who always has a smile on her face and I have no doubt our team will love working with her."
Hernandez ranks 10th all-time at Austin Peay with 1,002 kills. She was named to the 2010 Ohio Valley Conference All-Tournament Team after leading the Lady Govs to the OVC Tournament Championship and a berth into the NCAA Tournament.
"Playing under head coach Mike Johnson during my collegiate career at Austin Peay was something I will never forget," said Hernandez. "The lessons he instilled in our team, and wisdom he shared is something I truly value. Now, years later, I am fortunate enough to have the opportunity to coach alongside him and an amazing staff at Xavier. I couldn't be more excited to be part of the Xavier family!"
The Musketeers will open the 2013 season with their first practice on August 10 and begin competition as host of the Xavier Invitational held from Aug. 30-31.
