CINCINNATI - On Senior Day at Cintas Center, three Xavier seniors helped the Musketeers get past visiting Duquesne, 3-1. The Blue and White took the match with scores of 30-20, 26-30, 30-24 and 30-25 in each team's last Atlantic 10 contest of the season. The win moves XU to 17-11 on the season, 10-3 in A-10 play and secures the Musketeers a spot in the A-10 tournament next week as the fifth seed. Duquesne finishes its season at 11-21 and 4-9 in conference play.

Astyn Bjorklund, Ashley Norris and Danielle Skrajewski each donned the home uniforms for the final time this afternoon with each contributing heavily in the XU victory. The group finished their careers with an overall record of 32-12 at Cintas Center and held a 23-6 record in A-10 matches.

Bjorklund led the way for Xavier as the senior finished with a match-high 21 kills on 42 attempts for a .405 hitting percentage. Fellow middle blocker Jill Quayle followed with 19 kills and a .400 hitting percentage, while adding five block assists. On defense, sophomores Jenn Welsh and Megan Hellmann helped hold the Dukes to a .226 hitting percentage after recording 19 and 18 digs, respectively. Welsh also dished out 64 assists and added two kills and an ace. Freshman Hillary Otte continued her strong play with 17 kills and six digs, while Skrajewski and junior Jenni Horvath each finished with 11 kills. Skrajewski also notched her 51st career double double as she finished with 11 kills and 14 digs and Horvath earned her fourth career double double with 11 kills and 15 digs. Norris finished with a sesaon-high 10 digs and added an assist in her final match at Cintas.

 

 

The Musketeers will have a week to prepare for the Atlantic 10 tournament, which will take place in Dayton next Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Match time will most likely be at 7:30 pm on Friday evening at Dayton's Frericks Center. Please check back as the official release of match times and brackets will be posted when available.
