CINCINNATI - With its fourth win in a row, the Xavier volleyball team swept visiting Fordham, 3-0 (25-14, 26-24, 25-19), Friday night at Cintas Center. Senior Kelly Ruth tallied a match-high 11 kills to go with a match-high tying 13 digs for her fifth double-double of the season.

Also for the Musketeers, junior Claire Paszkiewicz set 31 assists and freshman Stephanie Vorherr got under 12 digs. Freshman Alex Smith had five blocks on the night while Ruth added four.

Xavier (17-10, 9-3 A-10) got ahead of Fordham, 3-1, in the early going of the first set. The Rams pulled to within one, 6-5, but the Musketeers went on a 3-1 run to push the advantage to three, 9-6. Ahead by four, 12-8, XU used a 7-1 run to take a 10-point advantage, 19-9, and never looked back. Ruth capped off the set with a kill as Xavier won 25-14.

Fordham (13-17, 3-9 A-10) made the second set much more interesting as there were 10 tied scores and three lead changes in the frame. The Rams held the 4-2 advantage but back-to-back Fordham attack errors even the score at four apiece. Xavier held a three-point lead, 16-13, when FOR rallied, scoring four straight to retake the advantage at 17-16. The two squads traded points until they found themselves knotted at 24 but XU was able to take the set off kills from senior Lauren Kaminsky and Ruth.

After intermission, the Musketeers fell behind as the Rams jumped out to the 6-3 lead. Behind three, 8-5, XU used a four-point swing to take over the lead, 9-8. FOR pulled to within one several times, the last one being at 19-18, but Xavier scored five consecutive to hold match-point, 24-18. After a Ram kill, the Musketeers took the set, 25-19, with a kill from Smith, and the match, 3-0.

The Rams were led by Katie Wells with nine kills and Michele Keathley with a match-high tying 13 digs. Jenna Hart tallied five blocks for the Rams and Katherine Burrell set 22 assists.

The Musketeers return to action Sunday as they travel to St. Louis, Mo., to take on No. 21 Saint Louis. First serve is set for 2 p.m. at Chaifetz Pavilion.
