CINCINNATI - In its first five-game match of the season, Xavier downed first-place Dayton in Atlantic 10 action at Cintas Center. The Musketeers used career nights by three players to down UD by scores of 30-24, 32-30, 23-30, 27-30 and 15-7 to hand the Flyers their first conference loss of the season. The win improves XU to 15-10 on the season and 8-2 in conference action, while UD falls to 19-6 and 9-1 in A-10 play.

The win over the Flyers was a double victory as Xavier sponsored its "Dig for the Cure" match this evening. As a team, the Musketeers recorded 102 digs and will now collect money from each pledge they received. That money will be combined with the team's $500 raised last night from the team volunteering at Cold Stone Creamery and then a check presentation will be made to the local chapter of the Susan G. Komen Foundation at one of the last home matches of the season.

On the night, freshman Hillary Otte paced the Musketeers. The rookie ended with a career-high 19 kills and three aces, while also adding six digs. Senior Danielle Skrajewski finished with her 49th career double double and ended with 22 kills and 20 digs. Classmate Astyn Bjorklund earned her first career double double as she finished with 14 kills and 10 digs, one shy of her career high. Junior Jill Quayle ended with a career-high 20 kills on the evening and also added two block assists and one ace. Classmate Jenni Horvath added eight kills with no errors for a .308 hitting percentage and tallied 15 digs. Sophomore Jenn Welsh dished out a career-high 71 assists on the night and helped the Musketeers to a .250 hitting percentage. Defensively, freshman Lauren Kaminsky missed her career-high total by one as she finished with a team-high 22 digs.

The win marked the first over the Flyers since the 2003 season and also the first win at Cintas Center over the Flyers since that same match. In six matches since then, UD has claimed all six including downing Xavier in the A-10 Finals in 2004. XU is now 4-3 all-time when facing Dayton at home.

The Musketeers will use tomorrow as a travel day before taking on Rhode Island in an A-10 match on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 pm. Xavier downed the Rams in three games in the first meeting of the season and the win gave XU a 13-12 advantage in the all-time series.
