DAYTON, Ohio - After winning the opening game, Xavier lost in four sets at 18th-ranked Dayton (19-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-14). Amé White recorded a team-high 12 kills and Sarah Brown added 11 for the Musketeers.

Xavier (11-9, 3-2 A-10) staked an early 14-10 lead in the opening set behind four kills and an ace by Amé White. After a sideout by Dayton (13-4, 5-0 A-10), back-to-back kills by Alex Smith pushed Xavier's margin to five points. The Musketeers closed out the set, 25-19. White finished with five kills during the game and Sarah Brown added four.

A kill by Alex Blair put XU ahead, 12-11, in the second set, but UD responded with an 8-3 run that forced a Musketeer timeout. Aubree Smith stopped the run with a kill to kick-start three-unanswered points for Xavier, leading to a timeout by UD.

Blocks on consecutive Musketeer attacks helped the Flyers push their margin to four. Dayton held the lead through the end of the set and evened the match at one set apiece headed into intermission with a 25-21 win.

Xavier called a timeout midway through the third game following a 6-3 spurt by UD, which gave the Flyers a 15-12 advantage. The Musketeers answered with a pair of points causing Dayton to call their own timeout. Xavier was unable to overcome the deficit and UD took a 2-1 lead in the match with a 25-21 win in game three.

The Flyers grabbed an early 6-3 lead in the fourth set, but the Musketeers answered with a 7-1 run that Kelsey Dunaway capped with a solo block. A timeout by UD changed the complexion of the set, as the Flyers reeled off a 13-2 spurt before closing out the set and match, 25-14.

"First of all, I've been proud of our preparation leading into the match," said head coach Mike Johnson. "In this program our goal is simple, get better every day. And, we've done that. I thought for the first set and a half we played very collected and composed volleyball. Going forward we will continue to prepare and continue to improve."

Aubree Smith finished with 37 assists and Stephanie Vorherr dug 14 Flyer attacks. Blair and Alex Smith each added nine kills.

Dayton was led by outside hitter Rachel Krabacher with 25 kills, while setter Samantha Selsky dished out 44 assists. Janna Krafka picked up 14 digs for the Flyers.

The Musketeers host Rhode Island on Friday and Fordham on Saturday in a pair of A-10 conference matchups. Both matches are scheduled for 7 p.m. start and will feature live stats on GoXavier.com. Saturday's match against Fordham will also be streamed live.
