CHARLOTTE, N.C.Senior Michelle Matia led the way with eight kills and six assisted blocks as Xavier defeated Charlotte, 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-16), at Halton Arena Friday evening. With the win Xavier moves to 13-5 on the season and a perfect 5-0 in A-10 action to tie Dayton for first place. Xavier is now on a six-match winning streak.

"I was very proud of the way we kept our composure tonight," said head coach Mike Johnson. "Charlotte is a team with a lot of firepower and at times they were excellent. We were able to maintain our discipline throughout the evening and I'm thrilled with the outcome."

Matia recorded a team-best .538 hitting percentage (8-1-13) while also knocking down a season-high six assisted blocks. Sophomore Kelsey Dunaway notched seven kills while junior Kaleigh Rougraff and red-shirt sophomore Alex Smith added six kills each. Rougraff got under a team-best 14 digs and recorded two service aces.

Red-shirt freshman Alex Blair recorded a career-high in assisted blocks, collecting five in the match. Blair also added four kills on the night. Freshman Aubree Smith assisted on 28 kills while knocking in two service aces and adding six digs and two assisted blocks. Junior Stephanie Vorherr passed 13 digs to go with her one service ace. Junior Elizabeth Lucich was one dig away from notching double-digit digs for the second time this season.



The Musketeers restricted the 49ers to a .080 hitting percentage while maintaining a .170 attack percentage. XU had 17 assisted blocks to CHA's 10, winning the battle of the team blocks eight and a half to seven. Xavier improved from the serving line, getting six service aces to nine errors.

With the loss, the 49ers drop to 6-10 on the season and 0-4 in conference play. Charlotte was led in kills by Bianca Rouse and Shannon McClean who each registered six kills. Setter Sheri Davis received 18 assists while Jenna Litoborski passed a match-high 18 digs.
