Xavier Handles La Salle In Straight Sets

Sarah Brown and Amé White each put down 11 kills, helping the Musketeers double-up La Salle in kills, 52-26.
On the strength of a .433 hitting percentage, the Musketeers cruised to a first-set win, 25-15. Led by four kills from Brown, Kelsey Dunaway and Aubree Smith, Xavier held a 16-6 advantage in kills during the set. Smith showed her versatility by dishing out 12 assists.
The Musketeers held a slim two-point margin midway through the second set, but used a 9-2 spurt to put the set out of reach before winning, 25-17. After the 16-kill first set, XU followed with 19 kills and a hitting percentage of .359 in the game. La Salle was limited to only six kills for the second-straight set and only hit .088.
With the third set tied at 14, Xavier won six of the next seven points at assume control of the match. XU won the set and match, 25-19, while recording 17 kills and a .382 attack percentage and holding La Salle to 14 kills and a .273 hitting percentage.
The Musketeers combined to hit .388 for the match and posted kill totals of 16, 19 and 17 in the three sets. Xavier, who leads the A-10 in opponent hitting percent, held La Salle to .165 in the match. The Explorers surpassed six kills in only the third set, when they connected on 14.
Aubree Smith finished the match with 39 assists, giving her 96 assists in the last two matches. She also added seven kills on 12 attempts with a .583 hitting percentage.
A day after recording a career-high 20 kills against Temple, Alex Smith registered eight kills against La Salle. In the last 24 hours, Smith has posted 27 kills, with only one error, and a hitting percentage of .541.
With a match-high 18 digs today and a match-high-tying 28 digs against Temple, libero Stephanie Vorherr surpass 1,900 career digs. She now has 1,907 in her career.
Xavier hosts crosstown rival Cincinnati on Wednesday at Cintas Center at 7 p.m. The Bearcats won last season's meeting, 3-1.
