Volleyball Split Its Matches on the Second Day of Sports Imports Classic

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Xavier volleyball team wrapped up the Ohio State Sports Imports Classic by splitting its matches on Saturday, dropping the second match, 3-0 (25-27, 18-25, 6-25), to host OSU at St. John Arena. Earlier in the day, the Musketeers swept Bowling Green, 3-0 (25-20, 28-26, 25-23) to finish the weekend at 2-1. Senior Kelly Ruth and freshman Stephanie Vorherr were named to the All-Tournament Team.
In the win over BGSU, Xavier (7-6) posted eight service aces as a team and senior Lauren Kaminsky led the offense with a match-high 13 kills. Vorherr recorded another 20+ dig effort with a match-high 22 digs while junior Claire Paszkiewicz set 43 assists.
Bowling Green (9-4) was led by Kaitlin Jackson with a team-high 11 kills while Alex Zablis and Cassie Berning both had seven digs.
Ohio State (12-1) took the Sports Imports Classic title with its 3-0 win over Xavier to finish the weekend unbeaten and to extend its winning streak to eight matches. With the loss, XU's six-match winning streak was broken. Freshman Alex Smith led the Musketeers with a team-high 11 kills and two solo blocks While Vorherr had seven digs.
For the Buckeyes, Tournament MVP Amanda Peterson set 31 assists and Katie Dull tallied a match-high 13 kills.
The Musketeers return to action on Friday, Sept. 25 as it opens Atlantic 10 Conference action at Dayton. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at Frericks Arena.
