COLUMBUS, Ohio - Xavier pushed No. 13 Ohio State to four sets, but fell to the Buckeyes in the championship match of the Sports Imports DC Koehl Classic (25-10, 21-25, 25-23, 25-13). Aubree Smith and Sarah Brown were named to the all-tournament team after leading Xavier to a 2-1 record in the tournament.

Smith dished out 122 assists in the tournament, which included a 59-assist effort against SEMO on Friday night. She added 14 kills and 28 digs on the weekend. Brown plucked 45 digs in the three matches, while also putting down 25 kills for the Musketeers.

The first set was all Ohio State. After the Musketeers built a 5-3 lead, the Buckeyes took off on a 14-1 run to grab control of the set before closing it out, 25-10.

A resilient XU squad answered back in the second set. Trailing 20-19, Xavier evened the match at a set apiece with a 6-1 run. Kelsey Dunaway started the spurt, Alex Smith added the next four kills and Sarah Brown put down the final kill to end the set, 25-21.

The third set was a close affair, with neither team leading by more than three points at any point. Xavier was within one point several times throughout the final stretch of the set, but OSU closed it out 25-23.

The opening 21 points of the fourth set were nearly a dead heat, but then the Buckeyes scored 10 unanswered points to take command of both the set and the match. OSU finished off XU, 25-13, in the fourth.

Alex Smith led Xavier's attack against Ohio State with 11 kills and Abbey Bessler added 10. The all-tournament team members Aubree Smith and Sarah Brown finished with 32 assists and 17 digs, respectively.

Xavier will play in its final non-conference tournament of the season when it travels to UC Irvine in Irvine, Calif., for three matches from Sept. 20-21. The Musketeers will face Fresno State in a 3:30 p.m. tilt on Friday afternoon.
