Xavier Comes Up Short Versus Kansas

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Following a five-set match against Notre Dame last evening, Xavier struggled to find its legs in a three-set loss to Kansas (25-15, 25-21, 25-17) on Saturday morning. The Musketeers fall to 7-6 on the season, while the Jayhawks improve to 11-1. Kansas jumped out to an 8-2 advantage and cruised to a first-set win, 25-15. The Musketeers got moving in the second set and built a 19-17 lead, but were unable to maintain the margin. An 8-2 run for the Jayhawks closed the game and put Xavier down two sets headed into intermission. Kansas went on to win the match after claiming the third set, 25-17. Sarah Brown led the Musketeers with 10 kills and Aubree Smith recorded 21 assists. Stephanie Vorherr surpassed 1,800 digs in her career with a 19-dig performance. She now has 1,814 digs. Xavier wraps up the Golden Dome Invitational with a 7 p.m. match tonight against Loyola Marymount. The Lions lost their opening match of the tournament against Kansas and play Notre Dame at 1 p.m.
