COLUMBUS, Ohio - Xavier (7-2) survived an early push from IUPUI (4-6) in the first set before going on to sweep the Jaguars (25-22, 25-20, 25-23) to win its fourth-straight match. Xavier's defense led the way with 11 team blocks, while limiting IUPUI to a .040 team hitting percentage.

Alex Blair led Xavier's front line with seven assisted blocks in the match, while Aubree Smith added five total blocks, two solo and three assisted. Smith added 31 assists and 15 digs.

Abbey Bessler led the offensive attack with 10 kills and chipped in 15 digs on the defensive side. Makayla Agin added nine kills on the offensive side.

IUPUI jumped out to an 11-6 lead in the opening set to force an XU timeout. A 6-2 run by the Musketeers closed the gap to one, 16-15, and a 5-2 run pushed them ahead, 20-18. XU held the advantage and won the first set, 25-22.

An early 7-3 lead in the second stanza provided an early cushion for the Musketeers, but the Jaguars made a run to even the score at 14. Consecutive kills from Sarah Brown pushed Xavier ahead, 22-18, and Brown closed out the set, 25-20, with another kill.

Late in the third frame, Xavier trailed, 19-18, and took a timeout. The team responded out of the timeout with a 5-2 spurt. Alex Smith and Bessler connected on the final two kills to close out the Jaguars, 25-23.

The 13th-ranked Buckeyes await the Musketeers for the closing match of the tournament at 7 p.m. Saturday night.
