INDIANAPOLIS - The Xavier Volleyball team won its night cap against host Butler in a 3-2 match (19-25, 25-16, 19-25, 25-19, 15-6) to close out the Butler Invitational with a 3-0 record. Seniors Claire Paszkiewicz and Chelsea Campbell were named to the All-Tournament Team, with Paszkiewicz earning the Tournament MVP award after tallying 47 assists, four blocks, 10 digs and a service ace. Xavier now goes to 5-4 on the season while Butler drops to 4-6.

Campbell recorded 12 kills, six digs and a service ace. Sophomore Stephanie Vorherr got under 17 digs and made three service aces. Senior Shannon Voors also recorded 3 aces and 8 digs while adding a match-high 19 kills.

Butler had a 2-1 lead in the match, but XU rallied back and won the final two sets in commanding fashion behind its senior leadership.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a quick 10-4 lead in the first set. The closest the Musketeers came in the first set was three. XU then ran out to a 6-1 lead to start the second set off kills by Campbell, Voors and Alex Smith. The Bulldogs came back to within one when the match was at 14-13. Vorherr then made one of her service aces to help XU win the final six points of the match.

Butler dominated the third set early by going on a seven point rally to put them ahead of X by a score of 15-8. The Musketeers battled, but would not get closer than three points for the rest of the match.

Butler once again got out to a hot start leading the fourth set early. Xavier’s turning point came when the score was tied at 15. After making some adjustments, XU went on a 6-1 run to lead 21-16. Vorherr added her other two service aces to give the Blue and White the momentum in the match. The Musketeers ultimately won the set, pushing the match into a decisive fifth set.



XU controlled the fifth set. Rookie Kelsey Dunaway rattled off two service aces and Voors recorded two kills. Campbell effectively put the fifth set away for the Musketeers with a dominant kill to bring the score to 13-4. Elizabeth Lucich provided the kill that clinched the match.

Butler’s Jessica Wolfe had 15 kills and nine digs and Maureen Bamiro added 10 kills, named to All-Tournament Team as well.
