NEWARK, Del. - The Xavier University volleyball team picked up its sixth win of the season with a straight-set victory against Columbia University (25-21, 25-14, 25-19) in the Delaware Invitational. Xavier improved to 6-4 on the season and Columbia fell to 2-3.

Three Musketeers finished with double-digit kills, led by Sarah Brown with a match-high 13. Kelsey Dunaway posted 12 kills and Alex Smith added 10 to complete the trifecta of players with double-digit kills. The Musketeers recorded a season-high .402 hitting percentage in the match, eclipsing the team's previous high of .311 against Coastal Carolina.

Xavier used a 9-3 run to gain control of the first set and went on to take the set, 25-21. The Musketeers put down 14 kills in the set and connected on .257 of their hitting attempts in the set.

Leading 8-6 in the second set, Xavier strung together 12-straight points on Stephanie Vorherr's serve. Four different Musketeers recorded seven kills during the stretch. XU won the set, 25-14, after putting down a total of 16 kills and posting a sizzling-hot hitting percentage of .577.

A kill by Smith ignited a 7-2 Xavier run midway through the third set. The Musketeers put the set and match away, 25-19, and picked up their first win of the Delaware Invitational.

"Before the match we challenged ourselves to forget the other side and simply be the best that we were capable of," said head coach Mike Johnson. "Satisfaction comes not from the outcome of the match, but from an internal belief that we have done our very best. Our team certainly embraced that challenge tonight and I am proud of our effort."

Aubree Smith chipped in a double-double with 34 assists and 11 digs, while Stephanie Vorherr logged a match-high 14 digs.

Xavier wraps up the University of Delaware Invitational against the host school with a 7 p.m. match on Saturday. Delaware has lost both of its matches in the tournament and are 1-6 on the season.
