CINCINNATI - In the nightcap of the first day of the Xavier Invitational, Xavier (4-2) dropped a thrilling five-set match (22-25, 25-18, 14-25, 26-24, 15-8) to Ole Miss (2-3) that saw players from both schools set records. Senior libero Stephanie Vorherr, who is closing in on Xavier's career mark for digs, broke her own record for digs in a match with 46.

A native of Cincinnati, Vorherr broke the single-game record that she originally set against Dayton (Oct. 15, 2010) nearly two years ago. She entered Friday's matches with 1,652 digs and added 63 digs on the day, bringing her total to 1,715. Vorherr needs only 13 digs in Saturday's match to tie Beth Osterday, who played at Xavier from 1996-99, for the career mark at 1,728 digs.

The match was a back and forth affair, with Xavier winning the first and third sets and Ole Miss claiming the second and fourth. Leading 24-23 in the fourth set and serving for the win, Xavier lost its momentum and allowed Ole Miss to win the last three points to take the set, 26-24.

With the fifth set tied at five-apiece, the Musketeers surrendered the next three points to the Rebels and were unable to come from behind, falling, 15-8, in the game's deciding set.

Junior outside hitter Sarah Brown added a team-high 15 kills to the 17 kills she recorded against Tennessee Tech, totaling 32 on the day. Brown completed a double-double performance by adding 15 digs in the match. Sophomore setter Aubree Smith also posted a double-double with 46 assists, the 12th time in her career she has eclipsed 40 assists in a match, and 15 digs.

Redshirt-sophomore middle blocker Alex Blair tied her career high in kills, successfully finding the court on 13 attacks. Blair previously recorded 13 kills against Wake Forest last season. Redshirt junior middle blocker Alex Smith notched 10 kills, making her the third Musketeer to reach double-digit kills in the match, and senior defensive specialist Kaleigh Rougraff recorded 12 digs.

The Rebels were led by Ashley Veach with a school-record-tying 37 digs. Amanda Philpot matched Aubree Smith with 46 assists in the match.

The Musketeers will close out the 2012 Xavier Invitational at 4 p.m. on Saturday against Marquette, who brings a 3-1 record into the match. Tomorrow's contest can be followed on GoXavier.com, where live stats and live video stream will be available.
