MOREHEAD, Ky. - In the program's 1,200th match, the Xavier volleyball team defeated Morehead State in three sets (25-16, 25-18, 25-17). The Musketeers used runs in all three sets to put away the Eagles. Alex Smith and Sarah Brown paced the Musketeer attack with eight kills each. Libero Stephanie Vorherr notched 16 digs and setter Aubree Smith recorded 22 assists.

Xavier (3-1) opened with a decisive victory in the first game, 25-16, after expanding on a 16-13 lead with a 7-1 run. XU took a 12-11 margin in the second set turned it into a seven-point advantage on the strength of an 8-2 spurt. Morehead State (0-4) showed some resiliency in the third set, jumping out to a 9-6 lead, but the Musketeers were too talented for the Eagles. Xavier scored eight of the next 10 points to take the lead and closed out the match on an 8-3 run.

XU is now in its 40th season and, with the win in its 1,200th match, has an all-time record of 674-576 for a winning percentage of .562.

Head coach Mike Johnson and the Musketeers return to Cincinnati where they will prepare to host the Xavier Invitational this coming Friday and Saturday, Aug. 31-Sept. 1. Ole Miss, Marquette and Tennessee Tech will make the trip to Cintas Center for the invitational.

The first match of the tournament between Ole Miss and Marquette is slated for a 10 a.m. start on Friday. Xavier will open its home schedule at noon against Tennessee Tech. Check for updates on the tournament, including live stats and live video for Xavier's home matches.
