CLEMSON, S.C. - In what turned out to be the title match of the Big Orange Bash, Xavier dropped its first match of the season to Clemson in three sets (25-18, 25-15, 25-21). Xavier (2-1) and Clemson (3-0) both defeated South Carolina State and Coastal Carolina to reach the final match of the round-robin tournament with perfect 2-0 records. Amé White and Stephanie Vorherr earned spots on the Big Orange Bash All-Tournament Team.

White finished the tournament with 26 kills with an attacking percentage of .316. Vorherr passed 42 digs and handed out 29 assists for the Musketeers.

Xavier fell behind early in the first set, but rallied to take the lead at 16-15. Clemson responded with a 10-3 run to close out the set. XU trailed Clemson by a mere kill, 11-12, in the set. However, the Musketeers committed 10 errors, posted a .029 attacking percentage and were blocked five times in the set.

After starting the second set with an ace by Kaleigh Rougraff, XU surrendered a 14-3 run to Clemson and eventually conceded the set 25-15. Xavier was more efficient on the attack, recording 10 kills to only three attacking miscues. Clemson's attack was efficient, posting 15 kills with an attacking percentage of .355.

During intermission, the Musketeers regrouped and came out on the attack to start the third set. XU built a lead that got as large as eight points, 17-9, and caused Clemson to call both of its timeouts. The Tigers went on a pair of runs and took the lead at 22-21. Xavier wound up falling in the third set, 25-21.

Xavier will return to the Queen City to prepare for a Tuesday evening tilt against Morehead State in Morehead, Ky. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. Morehead State holds the all-time series advantage at 16-19.
