Pfeffenberger Rejoins XU Staff After Three Seasons At ND

Christy Pfeffenberger rejoined the Xavier coaching staff on March 1, 2014, as associate head coach following a three-year stint as an assistant coach at Notre Dame. Pfeffenberger previously coached at Xavier from 2008-2010 as an assistant coach and then associate head coach.

During the 2014 season, she saw the Musketeers post a 19-12 overall record with a 12-6 mark in BIG EAST action. Pfeffenberger assisted in coaching Abbey Bessler and Aubree Smith to All-BIG EAST First Team honors.

Both Bessler and Smith were named to the AVCA All-Region Team with Smith eventually earning AVCA All-American honors for the second time in as many seasons. All told, Pfeffenberger assisted in mentoring two AVCA All-Americans during her time as an assistant at XU.

During her three seasons with the Fighting Irish, Pfeffenberger mentored the outside hitters, but also spent time working with both the right sides and middle blockers. She also helped coordinate the Irish's defense.

After the 2012 season, Pfeffenberger was included on the AVCA `Thirty Under 30' list for the second time in her career. She previously received the honor as an assistant at Xavier in 2009.

During her first stint at Xavier, the Musketeers compiled a 56-37 overall record. In 2010, the Musketeers posted their second consecutive 20-win season and had runner-up finishes in both the Atlantic 10 regular-season and tournament.

Pfeffenberger originally came to Xavier after spending two seasons as an assistant under Joe Bonner at Youngstown State. She worked with all aspects of the team including managing the outside attackers, breaking down film, recruiting, academics, travel plans and several other aspects as well.

Before her time at Youngstown State, Pfeffenberger served as an assistant coach at her alma mater, the University of Dayton, under former head coach Tim Horsman. She was a part of the UD staff for the 2005 season and helped with recruiting, scouting, academics and practice plans in addition to assisting during UD's summer camps.

Pfeffenberger has also served in several other capacities within the volleyball community including as a summer and winter volleyball camp coach, an individual instructor, as a certified junior national volleyball referee and as a Junior Olympic volleyball coach.

During her playing career, Pfeffenberger participated in two NCAA Tournaments and was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Year in 2004 in addition to being named an AVCA All-American. She was also named to the 2004 CoSIDA Academic All-American Third team.

The Indianapolis, Ind., native graduated from Dayton in 2005 with a bachelor's degree in education with a concentration in physical education and allied health.

Pfeffenberger and her husband Nick reside in Cincinnati with their two daughters, Caroline and Lexi.
