CINCINNATI - Four members of the Xavier women's tennis team are headed to the Ohio Valley USTA/ITA Regional Championships beginning Friday on the Basham Courts at the Schwartz Tennis Center on Purdue University's campus.
Singles qualifying begins on Thursday with Xavier senior Kally Alkire and junior Andrea Wolf having to win twice to join the main draw. Freshman Alex Brinker and sophomore Daniella Patton automatically reached the 64-player main draw that starts Friday.
Alkire squares off against Ball State's Kristel Sanders at 12:30 p.m. and Wolf plays Claudia Escribens of Purdue at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. Brinker faces Vanderbilt's Marie Casares on Friday. Patton's opponent has yet to be determined.
Xavier's doubles partners will be Patton and Wolf and Alkire and Brinker. Patton and Wolf are in the doubles qualifying and must win twice to reach the main draw and begin with Chattanooga's Kelsey Coots and Katie Polk at 8 a.m. on Thursday.
Alkire and Brinker await their opponents in the main draw. They are 6-4 in doubles play together this fall.
