Women’s Tennis Continues Strong Fall Season at Miami


OXFORD, Ohio – The Xavier University women’s tennis team continued its strong play in the fall season as the Musketeers competed on Saturday and Sunday at the Miami Invitational along with Cincinnati, Dayton, Indiana State, Miami and Wright State. Xavier finished the two-day event with a 17-7 singles record and a 12-1 record in doubles action.

Stephanie Bauer, Kristen Clary and Lauren Clary each recorded a perfect 3-0 record in their three singles matches. Bauer improved to 7-3 on the season with wins over Miami’s Victoria Pulido (6-3, 7-5), Magda Faferek of Indiana State (7-5, 6-0) and ISU’s Magda Narczewska (6-4, 6-3).

Kristen Clary moved her season record to 7-3 as the junior posted defeats of Miami’s Christy Scardina (6-3, 6-1), the RedHawks’ Katrina Lomidze (6-3, 6-4) and Faferek of Indiana State (6-0, 6-1).

Lauren Clary is now 8-2 in her senior campaign and 92-22 for her career. Clary cruised to three straight-set wins over Indiana State’s Marie Caujolle (6-2, 6-0), Cincinnati’s Jill Klauck (6-4, 6-0) and Linda Jirouskova of Miami (6-2, 6-0).

In other singles action, Emily Tuchscherer was 1-2, Sarah Potts finished 1-0, Jackie Vilines went 2-1, Alicia Papa was 2-1, Kate Lohner was 1-2 and Annie Diedalis was 1-1 on the weekend.

The Musketeers dominated the field on the doubles side as XU posted a 12-1 record. Stephanie Bauer and Lauren Clary improved to 9-2 on the season and 80-21 for their career with wins over Wright State’s Foster and Dunbar (8-0), Liu and Brown of Cincinnati (8-1) and Miami’s Jirouskova and Lomidze (8-2).

Kristen Clary and Emily Tuchscherer moved to 7-4 as the duo recorded wins against Faferek and Lahlou of Indiana State (8-5), Dayton’s Detroy and Metzger (8-6) and UC’s Reasoner and Klauck (8-2).

Kate Lohner and Jackie Vilines upped their season record to 6-4 with defeats of Beckett and Ames of Wright State (8-3), Miami’s Young and Scardina (9-7) and Trauernicht and Vlasek of Miami (8-6).

Annie Diedalis and Sarah Potts were perfect in their first doubles competition together this season. Diedalis and Potts cruised in the first and second rounds with an 8-0 win over Wright State’s Bagby and Laux and an 8-1 defeat of Miami’s Trauernicht and Vlasek. In the third round, Diedalis and Potts recorded their third win of the weekend with an 9-8 defeat Miami’s Wiegand and Bhat.

XU will return to action on Thursday, October 21 for the first day of the ITA Midwest Regional hosted by the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
