First Day Of Competition Was Strong For Women's Tennis

Highland Heights, Ky. - The Xavier women's tennis team completed its first day of competition at the Northern Kentucky Invitational. The Musketeers showed strong performance battling their competition and the weather.
In singles play, senior Allyson Westling clinched two wins by defeating Morehead State's Sandrine Beaule 6-2, 6-1, and Belmont's Maddie Gilley 6-1, 6-0.
Sophomores Megan Morris and Caitlin Lawless each battled to three sets to get their first win of the season. Morris defeated Morehead State's Kennedy Womack, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (13-11). Lawless posted a score of 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (11-9), defeating Belmont's Abbie Mather.
In doubles competition, Lawless and Morris were tied 7-7 in the first set against Morehead State before weather became an issue and it was marked unfinished. Brooke Dennis and Westling's matched was marked unfinished as well due to weather.
