June 11, 2012
CINCINNATI - Xavier junior Katie Pleiman's outstanding season on the tennis court has resulted in her being positioned 17th in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Women's Ohio Valley Region ranking. According to the ITA archived rankings Pleiman is the first female Xavier athlete to finish a season ranked. The Dayton, Ohio, native produced an outstanding 2011-12 season, in which she posted a 15-4 individual mark at the No. 1 slot for the Musketeers. "I am really happy for Katie receiving this recognition," head coach Eric Toth said. "Katie is an elite player and I feel she is on the doorstep of being recognized at a national level. I am looking forward, as is Katie, to an exciting senior season." This accolade adds to an already extensive list for Pleiman who was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team and the All-Academic Team this season. The all-conference honor was the third straight for the junior, who was named to the league's first team last year and earned the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year her freshman season. Throughout her three years at Xavier, Pleiman has racked up 46 wins against just 12 losses in singles play.
